Indy Power Systems Assists HUMVEE Project — 09/03/09
NSWC Crane, Pike Central High School, and Indy Power Systems are collaborating on a diesel and electric Hybrid drive system that will "bolt-on" as a retrofit system for the Humvee. Pike Central High School will lead the project with assistance from Crane and Indy Power Systems. NSWC Crane has provided the Humvee and performance guidelines. Indy Power Systems will provide the Hybrid electric drive system. It is expected that fuel consumption for the Humvee can be reduced by 25% to 50% and that performance can be increased as well. It is hoped that generators, motors, batteries, and power electronics can be sourced in Indiana. The goal of the project is to develop a Hybrid retrofit system that can be a "bolt-on" replacement for existing Humvee drive systems.
